We have updated our post debate Facebook numbers for the Conservative Leadership Candidates and Derek Sloan’s numbers are skyrocketing day after day in an election race that has been kept very quiet by Canadian main stream media. It is understandable why this is the case, seeing as a grassroots candidate like Derek has gained as many followers in 52 days, then the establishment favourite Peter Mackay has in his whole entire political career.  Think about that for a minute.  Derek only opened his election Facebook page a few months ago while Peter Mackay has had his for many years.  Derek has now, not only passed Peter in followers, but he has BLOWN past him and is widening that gap daily, and by the end of the week Derek will most likely have past Erin O’Toole who has also had his page for many years.  In the last 52 days alone, Derek has averaged over 1000 new followers per day, while Peter averages approximately 30 new followers.  To give some perspective, Peter Mackay’s growth of 1533 TOTAL over the past 52 days is less then the growth Derek has often had in one day alone.

To be fair to all candidates, we must remember that Peter Mackay and Erin O’Toole have been in the political game for quite some time and had a good portion of their followers before this leadership race even began while both Derek Sloan and Leslyn Lewis had just opened their profiles at the beginning of the race. New followers and likes, especially over the past 7 weeks give a great picture of growth and who people are following. Here are the Facebook numbers as of August 8th and changes since June 17th.

Candidate June 17 July 20 July 28 August 8 New Likes past 52 Days
Derek Sloan 7866 30,468 43880 62275 +54409
Leslyn Lewis 18,561 30,119 31772 32955 +14394
Erin O’Toole 60,000 66,361 67528 68025 +  8025
Peter Mackay 43,500 44,678 44887 45060 +  1560

It is no secret that Peter Mackay is the political establishments’ favoured candidate and seeing that Peter has had a rough time connecting with voters, it has been a much better strategy to allow his hired help, Rubicon Strategy, to do the bulk of the campaign work, while keeping Peter away from debates or any other venue where he will have to be compared to other candidates or have to speak to the public at large.

Seeing as Peter Mackay’s campaign has not been the great success that the political establishment had hoped, they also hitched their trailers to Erin O’Toole as a great back up candidate who will do their bidding.  He is very Liberal lite, but is much more likeable then Peter Mackay and O’Toole also connects much better with the voters. The take away by many is that the Conservative Party establishment types who have held the power and control within the party for quite some time are now seeing the massive true Conservative base as well as the faith community begin to awaken and become more politically engaged, and, because the base do not favour Liberal lite candidates, it seems as though the best strategy for the old school establishment leaders within the party is to keep the election coverage to a bare minimum, stop the ability for people to buy memberships way back on May 15th, in the middle of a pandemic, not allowing the vast majority of Canadians an opportunity to get to know Derek Sloan or Leslyn Lewis.  The party only held one French and one English debate which was barely advertised, and the party along with the media all around has done a very poor job of putting this election in the spotlight, especially in an unbiased way.

To the surprise of many, Leslyn Lewis came charging out of the gate with large support from some evangelical leadership networks across Canada.  This network did a great job of putting together huge national zoom meetings and introducing Leslyn to their networks.  The evangelical community which is by far the largest voting block in the country had obviously had enough of being ignored and even shunned by the Conservative establishment and were not going to sit back and be silent any longer.  One leader in particular who carries a lot of influence amongst this network categorized topics such as honouring conduct towards other candidates, freedom, green policies, winnability in key regions, life issues, etc. in their candidate assessment to show how they came to endorsing Leslyn as #1 and Derek Sloan as #2.  What was very surprising to many in the faith community was that these evangelical leaders did not bring Derek Sloan into the mix to allow people in their networks to get to know him as well, and they just jumped on with Lewis from Day 1, which they are very much within their right to do, but many would of thought there would have been equal attention given to both candidates.

The underdog in the race from Day 1 was Derek Sloan, a newly elected MP who represents the Hastings-Lennox and Addington riding.  Derek came in speaking a direct, tough language that Conservative Canadians are not used to at all.  Conservative Canadians have been conditioned to believe that trying to avoid Liberal media attacks and keeping the small percentage of progressive Conservatives in the Party from getting upset.  The language Derek came in was quite simple and to the point. Conservative. Without Apology.  It has taken several months, but Derek is utterly destroying that weak, let’s vote in who we think will be the most winnable candidate, who will be least attacked by the Liberal media.  Derek has led by strength and is totally bypassing the main stream media and strictly connecting with voters through social media and working with the alternative media, who will report his words honestly and who are growing to love his Conservative Without Apology attitude.

Instead of old school politically correct Conservative speech that people are sick and tired of, Derek came in addressing the core issues that keep Canada locked into the same systems, that in reality make our Canadian politicians more like enforcement agents rather then true Canadian leaders.  Derek is the only candidate that seems to understand that if we are going to be serious about moving forward in a way that will actually improve the lives of Canadians, and the country as a whole, there are a few imperative things that must be done, if we are TRULY serious about it.  Canadian’s are sick of the same old political garbage talking points that lure in voters but never amounts to anything.  One of Derek’s main campaign issues has been protecting Canada’s sovereignty which is a huge issue to every Canadian right now.  Although politicians love to use this talking point, they NEVER take the steps to actually protect Canada.  Derek understands that removing Canada from UN Agreements such as the UN Paris Agreement and UN Global Migration Pact, along with other UN agreements is step #1, and without step #1, we can’t get to step #2, which is the MAIN reason that Derek is by far the best candidate to lead Canada. This is just a common sense reality that Canadians are more and more beginning to understand, and yet, for some reason, Derek is the only candidate that will stand strong on this.  This issue along with other issues such as defunding the corrupt WHO, which is another partner organization of the United Nations, are actual REAL steps to protect Canadian sovereignty, as well as to protect and to be able to rebuild our energy sector, really began to appeal to the voters who were watching the other 3 candidates mostly stick to the same old Conservative talking points.  Leslyn has spoke about protecting the rights of families as well as some life issues which gained her initial support but as the campaign has continued to move on, Leslyn did not branch into the deeper issues that Derek has, which led a very decent percentage of the huge social Conservative voting block to gravitate towards Derek and his message.  Derek’s Facebook numbers not only surpassed Leslyn’s on July 20th, but in the past 15 days his social media following has grown by 21532 while Lewis’s has grown by 2504, which is a MASSIVE difference.

Candidate July 20 August 8 Past 19 Days
Derek Sloan 30,468 62275 +31797
Leslyn Lewis 30,119 32955 +  2836
Erin O’Toole 66,361 67836 +  1664
Peter Mackay 44,678 45033 +    382

Even over the past 11 days we wondered what kind of changes we would see, knowing that at least 50% of people voting had probably already sent in their ballots.  Sloan’s growth has actually surpassed the explosive growth rate he had already been on.  The other candidates are not even anywhere close, but we did notice a change in O’Toole and Lewis’s growth.  O’Toole’s numbers grew almost as much in the last week as the previous two weeks combined, while Lewis’s growth has slowed down some.  Mackay’s numbers have stayed stagnant and relatively unchanged.

I read Leslyn Lewis’s (who was ranked #1 in the “honour” category of how she treats other candidates by an organization that has endorsed her ) recent Facebook post on how it is now a 3 person race between Mackay, O’Toole and Lewis, because Derek had the lowest amount of donations and also because she had over 8400 donors.  Let’s use some common sense math to judge the validity of that statement.  There are 269,000 eligible voters, which would make 8400 donors 3% of eligible voters, which is a FAR cry from making it a 3 person race.  Derek’s following and explosive growth on Facebook shows a completely different picture which the other 3 campaign’s are well aware of and obviously have made them begin to panic and put out some false claims to try to change the narrative.  Seeing as we endorsed Leslyn as a #2 selection I can not just let her have a pass when she makes false claims or makes up a narrative that is not true.  When Sloan’s campaign released an email that made a claim that was true, but that Lewis had previoulsy addressed, I was vocal with Sloan’s campaign that I thought it wasn’t needed to be brought up, simply because Lewis had addressed it.  Other then that one instance, I have found the Sloan campaign to be truthful to the point where it can even upset some people, which is so refreshing around politics as it is usually filled with lies. The rest of the email’s claims were truthful, accurate and was very fair in my opinion.  The whole goal seemed to be Sloan’s campaign trying to point out that Leslyn and Derek have large differences in their policies and agendas.

I understand that this is an election, and it is in the crunch where every candidate is fighting for votes.  It is not a place for the weak BUT, when Lewis’s campaign and other people endorsing her are trying to paint the picture of her to the faith community as this honourable, nice and kind candidate, but then she makes totally untrue statements such as this is now a 3 person race, as well as falsely quoting Derek last week saying he praised the Paris agreement last year, it really weakens the claims of her one of her strongest endorsements in the faith community who put honouring other candidates at the same weight in ranking candidates as other issues and gave Lewis the highest marks in that category.

In my opinion, I can honestly say that all 4 campaigns have run relatively clean, and honest campaigns.  I can easily point out areas on all 4 campaigns where they have taken truths and stretched them to look more favorable to their candidates and I can point out a few complete lies that I have seen from candidates.  I only pointed out this last couple things Leslyn has stated because of the report card that gave her a perfect score on honour and because we have endorsed her as a #2 on the ballot.  Above any candidate winning or losing, I would love to see integrity in the political world become the standard and unless we hold all candidates accountable for false claims, it will remain acceptable to continue the same corrupt practices we have seen in politics for years.  I believe candidates pointing out each others flawed, weak, corrupt, wrong, good, etc. policies, while making the pitch to voters based on their own platforms is an important part of every election but I very much agree that it should be done by pointing out things honestly.  If Derek had really praised the Paris Agreement I think Leslyn would very much be in the right to point that out, especially when he is campaigning on Canada’s removal, but the fact of the matter is, that it wasn’t true.  For the Lewis campaign to put out the post saying it is now a 3 person race goes beyond misleading to a total fabricated lie and not even close to the truth, which I personally find very disappointing after we have endorsed her as a #2 choice.

This kind of hypocrisy that goes on in politics is one of the other things that has people flocking to Derek.  He isn’t trying to be passive aggressive, he is a straight shooter, he tells it like it is and at the end of the day he is CONSERVATIVE. WITHOUT APOLOGY, and he has earned Mountain Media’s full endorsement.

The most honourable thing any candidate can do, is go to battle for Canada and that starts by getting Canada out of the UN Paris Agreement and other UN agreements.  If candidates won’t commit to that then they are dishonouring our country and every citizens in it, in my own personal opinion.
